Pittsfield offers home vaccinations for homebound residents
The Pittsfield Health Department announced it will send a public health nurse to administer flu and COVID-19 vaccines to residents who are homebound, at no out-of-pocket cost. Residents can arrange a visit by calling (413) 499-9411.
The City of Pittsfield Health Department announced Sept. 3 that it is offering flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to Pittsfield residents who are homebound, meaning they cannot leave home without considerable and taxing effort, or for whom leaving home is medically inadvisable.
Residents who qualify and want a vaccination should call the Pittsfield Health Department at (413) 499-9411. Staff will schedule a time for a public health nurse to visit the resident's home and administer the vaccine. There is no out-of-pocket charge for the service.
The health department said the start of respiratory illness season is a reminder for everyone to get annual flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, and encouraged residents to talk with their physicians about whether they should also get a pneumonia or RSV vaccine. The department said vaccination is "the best way to prevent and/or reduce serious illness and hospitalization" and also helps protect family and friends at high risk of serious illness.
The announcement also noted public flu and COVID-19 clinics had been scheduled for Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 at the Pittsfield Senior Center, with appointments required and registration available by calling the same health department number.
