Library Hosts Sondheim Concert and Children's Literacy Program
The Berkshire Athenaeum drew residents to two events Friday, a children's literacy program and an evening piano concert, as the library's fall calendar of weekly clubs and gatherings kicks into gear this week.

The Berkshire Athenaeum hosted "Curiosity Day: If You Give a Pig a Pancake" on September 19, an early literacy program built around the children's book character. The same evening, pianist Jay Daniels performed a concert of Stephen Sondheim compositions at the library.
The library's weekly programming continues this week with the Monday Mahjong Group and Darn-Yarns Fiber Arts Group both meeting September 21, followed by Tinker Tots and LEGO Club on September 22, and Kid's Knit-Wits and a Yoga Nidra session with Kathleen Kraft on September 23. The library also continues to promote its "250 Years... 250 Books" list highlighting its most-borrowed titles, and is marking National Library Card Sign-Up Month throughout September.

The Pittsfield City Council holds zoning amendment public hearings and its regular meeting September 22 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The Pittsfield Public School Committee meets September 23 at 6 p.m., also at City Hall.
Later in the week, the Conservation Commission meets September 24 at 6 p.m., the Reid Middle School Council meets at 4:30 p.m. that day, and a Halloween Parade 2026 float seminar is scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall. The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority holds an advisory board meeting September 24 at 4 p.m. and its regular board meeting at 10 a.m. that same day. The RSVP Advisory Board and the Pittsfield Retirement Board also meet September 24, at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively. Taconic High School hosts Hoosac Valley's junior varsity football team September 21 at 4 p.m.
