Commission on Disabilities approves prior minutes; prioritizes transit and housing

Commission on Disabilities · Meeting of April 9, 2026

Pittsfield Commission on Disabilities approves March minutes and plans summer ADA celebration. Chair Cathy Carchedi reported that the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority declined to alter bus routes following Commission advocacy, while free paratransit rides continue at least through July 1; new accessible vans will feature ramps instead of lifts. Engineer Tim Croce has compiled a list of downtown handicap parking spaces requiring signage correction and repainting.

The Commission will seek Ward 6 Councilor Dina Lampiasi's support for a 15-minute drop-off space at AdLib to replace removed rear parking. A July flag-raising and proclamation ceremony will mark the ADA celebration; the Commission may recognize a local business for disability-community contributions.
