Commission on Disabilities approves March minutes, discusses accessibility upgrades.
Commission on Disabilities · Meeting of May 14, 2026
PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield Commission on Disabilities unanimously approved its March minutes and welcomed new member Amy Chapman-Johnson from the Brain Injury Association. Cathy Carchedi, Chair, received project updates from Jim McGrath of Community Development on multiple city accessibility initiatives: the Durant Park splash pad is complete and scheduled to open by end of June; the Williams School playground received a $50,000 grant for improvements; and Phase 1 work at Pontoosuc Lake is finished. The commission discussed paratransit driver issues with new accessible vans and accessibility concerns at Tyler Street Arcade and the Mana Crypt building.
For July, the commission will hold an ADA celebration with a flag raising at City Hall and establish the Commission on Disabilities Community Inclusion Award, with Carchedi to present a nomination recommendation to the June meeting for a vote.
